Ana Paula Fernandes

Video Editor

Education:
Universidade Salvador - Bachelor in Design and Visual Communication and Minor in Film

Do you enjoy what you do? Why?
Since I was a kid I liked to film my friends and make small movies editing in windows movie maker, I always loved editing videos. I take great pleasure in editing because I believe it is possible to make storytelling visible, to make a story tangible, however abstract it may be.

Why did you select this area of work?
I always wanted to work with something creative and that I could do something unique. I first got to know graphic design by participating in illustration courses (which already brought me a lot of joy to study), but when being presented in classes for the possibilities of working with video I knew that I could combine my passion for cinema with the practicality of design.

Who has influenced your life most?
My brother. We are close in age and even though we work and live in very different ways, his encouragement has always been my biggest motivation.

What would you say is your strongest characteristic?
I love to learn new things. The feeling of discovering a world of things I don't know excites me.

What achievement are you most proud of?
In my last year of college I won a scholarship for academic merit and was able to do my minor in cinema in the USA. It was something I'm very proud of and it definitely changed my career.

Your biggest pet peeve at work?
I have problems with miscommunication, whether caused by not being speaking or implying that I must be able to read minds. It is impossible for me to work in an environment with this problem.

When you have a bad day, what makes you happy?
Popcorn, watch Netflix and call my friends. Sometimes all at the same time.

Who would you swap places with for one day?
Not swap places, but I am very curious to spend a day and have a coffee with some artists that I admire, such as Wagner Moura, Spike Lee, Phoebe Waller-Bridge and many others.
